About the Role

Are you a passionate technical leader with extensive transmission line expertise and a drive for excellence? We’re looking for a proactive and influential Technical Manager - Transmission Lines to join our Transmission Projects team. In this role, you’ll provide technical leadership, specialist expertise, and governance across transmission line maintenance, construction, refurbishment, and operational activities. Working closely with clients, network owners, and project teams, you’ll drive technical excellence, industry best practice, and continuous improvement while supporting the successful delivery of high-quality transmission projects and the future growth of our business.

  • Provide technical leadership across transmission line maintenance, refurbishment, and construction projects from concept through to commissioning and handover.
  • Provide technical leadership, support, and specialist guidance to the Line Services Business Units.
  • Support project teams in resolving complex technical, operational, construction and asset management challenges.
  • Provide technical input during tendering, estimating, planning, design review and project execution phases.
  • Lead constructability reviews, technical workshops, and project technical reviews to optimise safety, quality, efficiency and project outcomes.
  • Build technical capability across the Line Services Business Units through training, mentoring, coaching, recruitment, succession planning, and workforce development initiatives.
  • Develop engineers, line mechanics and technical specialists to support current and future business requirements including undertaking competency assessments and development planning.
  • Provide technical guidance and support for quality assurance, field activities, and operational excellence.
  • Provide governance and technical oversight to ensure quality systems, operational procedures, technical consistency, and industry best practice are applied across all projects and field activities.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve technical processes, standards, procedures, and documentation across the Perimeter.
  • Provide network ownership and subject matter expertise to support implementation of operational policies, procedures, and strategies for transmission line inspection, maintenance, construction and asset management activities.
  • Represent the business in technical meetings, project reviews, client forums, and industry groups.
  • Monitor industry developments and emerging technologies to support strategic business objectives.
  • Drive innovation, research, and continuous improvement initiatives relating to work practices, equipment, materials, systems, and procedures.
  • Support technical investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning for significant technical, operational, and safety incidents.
  • Understand and comply with your obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and all associated regulations, standards, and approved codes of practice.
  • Comply with any reasonable instruction given to you by the company relating to health and safety.

Qualifications and Skills

  • National certificate in Electrical Engineering or equivalent industry recognised qualification.
  • Strong theoretical knowledge of transmission line systems.
  • Practical experience in the construction, maintenance and inspection of transmission line assets.
  • Sound understanding of structural engineering principles applicable to transmission line assets.
  • Live line, de-energised, and helicopter-assisted transmission line work practices.
  • Coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Strategic thinking and continuous improvement mindset
