About the Role

Looking for your next big opportunity? We’ve got an exciting Trainee Power Systems Technician role just for you! If you currently have a National Certificate in Electrical Engineering (Electrician for Registration) Level 4, or National Certificate in Electricity Supply (Electrical) Level 4, or are working towards/completed a diploma/degree in electrical enginnering, and want to further your career in the electrical industry, this is the job for you!

We are looking for a Trainee who is motivated to learn and able to take instruction. While it is not essential, applicants who have started or completed an electrical diploma will be viewed favorably. 

•    Working on electrical systems, AC and DC.
•    Working on Scada systems.
•    Developing work plans for construction and servicing electrical equipment.
•    Conducting tests on transmission power transformers.
•    Conducting maintenance and/or commissioning tests on instrument transformers.
•    Conducting maintenance and/or commissioning tests on high voltage power cable & terminals up to 220kV.
•    Conducting acceptance, commissioning and maintenance tests on Power system protection relays.
•    Using and maintaining test instruments used within the HV electricity industry.
•    Carrying out maintenance work to client specifications.
•    Installing/maintaining substation and other high voltage equipment, as per job instructions and specifications, meeting current regulations and standards.
•    Understand and comply with your obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and all associated regulations, standards, and approved codes of practice.
•    Comply with any reasonable instruction given to you by Omexom relating to health and safety.

Qualifications and Skills

The ideal candidate would also have some or all the following:

•    Work towards completing a Tertiary Diploma qualification.
•    Work towards EWRB Electrical license (for diploma/degree holders)
•    Proven Strong Mathematics and Physics ability
•    Ability to identify and problem solve complex tasks
•    Computer literacy and basic understanding of networks
•    An awareness of industry safety requirements.
•    Previous experience and aptitude for outdoor work
•    Possess a valid Class 1 NZ driver’s license. 
•    Self-motivated and proactive
•    Possess a ‘can-do’ attitude
•    Work well as part of a team
•    A mechanical aptitude
