About the Role

Looking for your next big opportunity? We’ve got an exciting Trainee Vegetation Controller role just for you! In this position, you’ll attain New Zealand Certification in Horticulture (Arboriculture) levels 3 and 4 to be a certified Vegetation Controller, to provide an arborist/vegetation control trade’s service to the company’s Transmission Business Units in the Lines Services Perimeter, making a real impact.

Attendance and timely completion of all training courses, related practical work, and associated paperwork. Through this training, you will develop competency in the following tasks:

•    Pruning, trimming, de-limbing and dismantling trees using a variety of methods and equipment, e.g., chainsaws.
•    Felling trees by applying appropriate felling techniques and equipment for different situations, including machine-assisted tree felling.
•    Disposing of trimmed and felled vegetation by using appropriate equipment, e.g., brush chippers, grinders.
•    Carrying out ground-based duties and applying safety observer procedures as required.
•    Completing required job documentation as required by the company or client.
•    Communicating with landowners on work to be performed as required.
•    Operating specialist vehicles in off-road environments to carry out vegetation work.
•    Understand and comply with your obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and all associated regulations, standards, and approved codes of practice.
•    Comply with any reasonable instruction given to you by Omexom relating to health and safety.

Qualifications and Skills

•    A minimum of NZQA level 1 or equivalent recognised qualification is preferred.
•    Awareness of industry safety requirements.
•    Previous experience and aptitude for outdoor work.
•    Flexibility required in dealing with adverse weather, resource, materials, and other conditions.
•    Willingness to learn and grow.
•    A minimum of a NZ Full Class 1 Driver’s Licence is required, including the ability to drive a manual transmission vehicle. A Class 2 licence is preferred but not essential
